About Fun Chat Safe Fun Chat Safe was orignally founded in the year 2007, known as Chatsafe, which was located at freewebs.com/chatsafe which was then changed to chatsafe.webs.com. (The site still exists today...kind of... it no longer works but its still there! It was made by Jay Smith, a student at Trafford College, Altrincham site. He studied a course (BTEC Intro.Diploma in IT@Work) that included web designing, which gave him the idea of this site. Sadly he didn't have the money or the knowledge at that time to make a fully designed site and a domain name, so he used webs.com to design and host the site for free. Jay (me) still a student at Trafford College, now doing BTEC National Diploma IT & Business Level 3, is still maintaining this website in his spare time, which is very little and why this site hasnt been updated much for a very long time. By now he has more knowledge of the site and this is how the site has become as to what it is today, and every week he learns something new, so hopefully this site may just get even better far quicker then it used to! So how did FCS (Fun Chat Safe) start off it's life? FunChatSafe Phrase #1 As you can see in these images, which was the very first attempt at this website using webs.com, it was very poor and boring to look at, however people were using the chatbox, which was run by a third party company, and placed into my site with HTML code that was provided. As you can see there was very limited number of pages, A homepage, Chatpage, Links, Contact us, and the webs.com wikipedia clone. I wasn't that impressed with the site but at that time i didnt know what to do or how to work the site to compete with the other sites. FunChatSafe Phrase #2 One day soon Freewebs made layouts, all you had to do was pick one and the site will do the rest of the work for you! As you can see in these screenshots. As you look and compare the new site with the old one, you notice they are the same, but this one actually looks like a website! There was a LOGO where the "image not found" is but sadly the logo failed when i took the screenshot, and i havent had time to fix it, however the logo can be seen in the next website phrase. As you can see the site has now completly changed with more pages! I got ahold of dreamweaver, and by this time i was in BTEC First Diploma ICT Level 2, and gained knowledge on how to make a basic site from strach! This allowed me to gain more features, such as more pages customised all to my usage, and also i added adverts into a sidebar on everypage, in hope to make some money. FunChatSafe Phrase #4 Well you're using it now, you on it (the chat site)! We made another website, newer, clean colours to make everything all that bit better, however the CSS style was made by a friend of mine, and the site was fixed to 800px wide (which it is now 1024px) and it cause me trouble at first, till i worked out how to work css (which im still learning) and edited the images used to match the width. This is BEFORE we had a welcome portal, or a social network website! And this is where i decided... let's have some games on this site, to make it more popular! Also thanks to the new web hosting server we just bought, the chatrooms are 34.7% faster, the website is 42.9% faster and we now have the unlimited disk space and 250GB of bandwidth, so we can now have more features including the games to be hosted on our site! FunChatSafe Phrase #5 Phrase 5 is where I attempted my very first goal for a site in the first place, as a chat and games site was not my orginal wish. my original wish was a social networking site that didnt BORE in layout such as facebook and didnt get OVERLY designed like myspace. My goal.. was a special new type of social network. A social network of all social networks, a social network site that grabs your info from all the other sites, so you could have all your facebook, bebo, myspace, twitter stuff all in one place, accessing profiles across each ones................. of course sadly this proved to be almost impossible, but i made a facebookish clone, after they changed the layout, i was able to grab the old layout and was allowed to use it! FunChatSafe Phrase #6 Phrase 6, was to this chat and games site (with only 1 game??????????) to work as browser friendly. My original code, perfect in Firefox 2 worked fine in IE6 and just about ok in IE7, but then IE8 came out and my site looked lite it was designed by the three blind mice (wow how that popped in my head i dont know, and as you can tell im being informal about all this). So this phrase (going on now March 2010-April 2010) is to redesign the code, fixe the google searches, sort out the adverts as i was having popups fly all over the place as IE8 messed my coding and made the 1 popup a week fly open 20 times each pageload, driving everyone away! (Thanks a lot bloody stupid microsoft idiots) Firefox 3, and Opera browsers however saw the site perfectly, until Opera updated and became like IE8... then comes along chrome which was the worst of the lot! Anyhow hopefully as you can tell its now working in all resoultions and Browsers as long it's 1024*768 minimum. However, due to all this work i had to temporaily close down the social network website. HEY! Im a busy student full time at college with limited internet access, doing this all by myself with no help so what do you expect! FunChatSafe Phrase #8 Phrase 7.. I'm hoping to start on the social network site again, trying to get to my original goal, so far i had SOME look, found a way for profile pics on my site to automaticly grab from their facebook profiles (if they allow it of course) and everytime they update there FCS status, facebook will also update etc, and also twitter was starting to work with the site! Sadly i cannot say how long it will be till the social network is back up and running and if it will meet my main targets.... keep tuned into the site to find out. JOIN OUR MONTHLY NEWSLETTER!
